ABOUT

Based in Los Angeles, Mazarine began as a collaborative remote project between Derrick Perry and Angie Kang in early 2024, initially driven by shoegaze and dreampop influences. Their sound quickly evolved to incorporate elements of trip hop, grunge, post-punk, and no wave. The result is a distinct sound that merges dissonant guitars with soaring vocals and driving beats.

Derrick Perry is a filmmaker born and raised in Virginia. After playing guitar in various bands in his youth, his focus shifted to record collecting and DJing. In Brooklyn, he spent late nights in clubs and loft parties, performing alongside A-Trak and Afrika Bambaataa, while developing electronic and sample-based work on an Akai MPC2000. After a self-imposed retreat to focus on film, he relocated to Los Angeles and returned to the sounds of his earlier years.

Angie Kang, a digital designer born and raised outside of Detroit. She was the vocalist for the Austin-based noisy math rock band Future Death, whose debut album, "Special Victim," garnered critical acclaim from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and Vice, and opened for bands like Melt-Banana, OBN III's, Circle Takes the Square, and This Will Destroy You.

In 2026, the addition of guitarist Eddie Diaz has evolved the band’s sound, layering in weight, texture, and color. Angie and Eddie previously collaborated in the darkwave post-punk project Nonfiction.

“EyeSpeak2U” is out April 10.

The four-track EP “Dress Rehearsal” follows on May 8.
