Based in Los Angeles, Mazarine began as a collaborative remote project between Derrick Perry and Angie Kang in early 2024, initially driven by shoegaze and dream pop influences. Their sound quickly evolved to incorporate elements of trip hop, grunge, post-punk, and no wave. The result is a distinct sound that merges dissonant guitars with soaring vocals and imaginative beats.

Derrick Perry is a filmmaker born and raised in Virginia. After a youth spent going to local punk shows and playing guitar in various bands, his tastes transitioned to record collecting and DJing. Upon moving to Brooklyn he spent many late nights in clubs and loft parties around the city, performing alongside the likes of A-Trak and Afrika Bambaataa. At the same time he began using the famed Akai MPC2000 for his own electronic and sample based compositions. Following a self imposed retreat from music to focus on film work, Derrick relocated to Los Angeles and found himself drawn back into the sounds of his earlier years.
Angie Kang, a digital designer born and raised outside of Detroit, runs a zero-waste online shop called Cosmos Modern. She was the vocalist for the Austin-based noisy math rock band Future Death, whose debut album, "Special Victim," garnered critical acclaim from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and Vice, and opened for bands like Melt-Banana, OBN III's, Circle Takes the Square, and This Will Destroy You. Angie also produces techno music under the alias Cell Trance and has a darkwave project called Nonfiction.
